He is a former member of the United States Council onthe Business Development Committee of the U.S.- South Africa BinationalCommission and the Board of Directors of the Corporate Council on Africa inWashington, D.C. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of theWorld Trade Council of the Greater Houston Partnership.In 2003, Lawal established a $1 million endowment at Texas Southern Universityto establish the Kase and Eileen Lawal Center for Global Trade at Jesse H JonesSchool of Business. In 1992, he established a petroleum engineering endowment atthe University of Houston’s Cullen College of Engineering to benefit graduatepetroleum engineering students. Lawal serves as the director of the CullenEngineering Research Foundation and as a trustee for The Kinkaid School, whichis a leading college preparatory school. He also co-chairs Unite for Children,United Against AIDS, a $300-million-dollar UNICEF campaign with his wife EileenLawal.Lawal is a graduate of Texas Southern University with a bachelor’s degree inchemistry and later obtained a master’s degree in business administration,finance and marketing from Prairie View A&M University of Texas.

He was awardedhonorary doctorates in from Fort Valley State University and Texas SouthernUniversity.The Port of Houston Authority owns and operates the public facilities locatedalong the Port of Houston, the 25-mile-long complex of diversified public andprivate facilities designed for handling general cargo, containers, grain andother dry bulk materials, project and heavy lift cargo, and other types ofcargo.
